Keep, Drop, Change!

Gospel Reflection for 7 January 2018

The Epiphany of the Lord

Pls Read God’s Silent Message: Gospel of Matthew 2:1-12

“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.“

It’s NEW YEAR once more!

“Picture-picture!” … selfie dito, groupie don!

True enough! I have always loved “photography” because I have always loved “life & every bit of chance in it”!  Thanks to the leveled-up technology kasi digital na tayo ngayon … gone were the days na “kailangan ipa-develop mo muna ang film bago mo pa makita ang image”! – tapos saka mo pa lang makikita na ang epic-fail pala ang shots mo, gumastos ka pa sa developing charge!

Each picture tells “a thousand words” & God’s messages & signals are in-to-it! Images may be kept in the heart but God has given us another alternative to make us “see beyond” when we “take another glance” at those shots in our solitude.

God has always been great for creating great minds that brought us this “digital advantage” where we can easily keep good-to-see pics, drop unpleasant scenarios & elements and change some effects before we post pics that would gather many “likes” in social sites –- all because we’ve INSPIRED life!

What we do in photography, we do to “life”! – but let us be like those three WISE men who CONSIDERED God’s SIGNS which made them decide to take another route & save themselves from unseeming destruction.

So, my dear friends,  let’s reflect on this: what can we “keep, drop & change” in our life as we welcome 2018?

Happy & Blessed New Year po! #sunset

Recognizing Emmanuel

December 18, 2016. 4th Sunday of Advent. Emmanuel: God With Us

Pls Read God’s Silent Message: Mt 1:18-24

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,                which means “God is with us.”

I thought I won’t make it!

I thought I would be weak and would feel weaker as I had to go through those six cycles!

But here I am … STRONGER! Continually claiming for such BREAKTHROUGH that those six which recently ended would be the last; … no more 7th, no more 8th!

When TOUGH TIMES supersede, you would surely doubt if you’d ever get through it!  It has never been easy waking up at the middle of the night with unexplained pains.  It has never been easy battling the work of the mind which triggers all the anxieties there are, during each and every cycle; even during downtimes few days after the treatment.

But what makes me survive each time? … that assurance that “God is with me!”

Each time I cry out to God for His mercy & love, there in my dreams, He makes me see that I have succeeded over the valley of death and that I am there, right on top of such valley, enjoying His Oasis of healing, tapping over the refreshing water of life.

Friends, would you hold on to the promises of God, especially when you are faced with uncertainty in your journey? … PLEASE DO!

Just like Joseph & Mary in today’s gospel, we are called “in hope to believe against hope” that God will fulfill all His promises and that He will give us great guarantee through our intuition and our dreams – exactly as what He did with Joseph – whom after such dream, when Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him. Mary on the other hand, nonetheless believed and trusted with all her heart even if she was asked to assume a burden of tremendous responsibility – BOTH A LANGUAGE OF LOVE just to bring us our “Emmanuel”!

May this Advent Season make our lives an inspiration of faith & hope to those we fall short of recognition that amidst life’s enormous challenge, “God is with us” for always! #sunset

Let those Eyes Teach Us.

Children's Rights, Rights of a Child

Let those eyes teach us what we have to learn.

Pls Read God’s Silent Message: MK 8:27-35

“Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me” — Jesus

Have you ever tried looking into the eyes of a child?

I was with many of them for the past five Fridays batch after batch. It awed them when I emphasized that I was in front of them because iCare”! There was joy in their smiles upon discovering that we have Seven Srengths/ Character Traits we, Filipinos are good at: [1]pakikipagkapwa-tao; [2] pagpapahalaga sa pamilya; [3] kagalakan at pagpapatawa; [4] pakikibagay, madaling sumunod, at pagiging malikahain; [5] puspusang pagtatrabaho at kasipagan; [6] pananampalataya at pagiging maka-diyos; & [7] ability to survive – yet, I personally felt unhappy breaking to them the reality that we also have Seven Weaknesses/our common tendencies to do the extremes: [1] extreme personalism; [2] extreme family centeredness; [3] lack of discipline; [4] lack of initiative; [5] colonial mentality; [6] kanya-kanya syndrome; [7] lack of analysis.

There was “something” in their reactions when I illustrated: “7 Strengths minus 7 Weaknesses =0”! Could it really be that we, Filipinos are already of “zero character”?!? I then strive to sustain their innocent positivism by telling them that there’s a lot they can personally do to make themselves ON-GUARD for HOPE.

Happiness unbroken! Their eyes sparkled and laughter echoed upon sharing the PERSONAL MEANING of the SELF-SYMBOL that they have created; proudly posted each on their gallery for presentation and eagerly retrieved it afterwards – assuring me that they will keep it deep within their hearts until they grow more matured.

As I ended last Friday giving such series of Values-Formation Seminar among the pupils in the entire Cabuyao District, God is sending me this very clear message in today’s Gospel:

We may have the authority to facilitate life each time, but there could be

NO BETTER TEACHER THAN THE LOOK IN THE EYES OF A CHILD!

And as I share this experience with you Brothers & Sisters, may we then challenge ourselves to grab each CHANCE TO SHAPE THE FUTURE with the lessons we could humbly learn from each child. May we be more accommodating to RECEIVE JESUS while we recognize that we are not “the greatest” just because we have the authority to be one – for God wants us to sanctify our initiative to empty ourselves of pride – a way to really influence inspiration by the heart. #sunset

My Daughter’s First Few Steps

“God is your only strong back-up!” — this was where she started her first step up!

No matter how worried she was for not having someone “in there” to refer her, bravely she tried to do her own “follow ups” until she was accommodated for her Internship.

Confidently she thrived through the various difficult tasks even of having only few hours sleep just to cope with her supervisor’s expectations which earned her an “inspiring evaluation” of her performance.

Those words which says “let us know when you graduate!” gave her the strong conviction that God has just been there for her next step up.

And so she grabbed the chance — did not waver a bit. Researched her way to what would help her “make it” in the tedious exams and series of interviews.

All the more, she prayed, patiently waited, grasped for God’s silent messages along those pages in “didache” and other inspirational reads — until that day God said, “Go, on your wings to your future” — her next step up as one of the Network’s Talent: “Researcher” for News & Public Affairs: Brigada News TV.

WOW to that God-willed date June 19, 2013 her FIRST DAY of WORK!

And yes, as faithful as has been, bringing her to another step up, she was right away the assigned Researcher for a current hot issue “Ang Pagsubok ni Marco”.

So there, her first late home arrival @12:38 am of the next day — yet ANOTHER STEP UP where she immediately had to gather resources, trace contacts, make connections and the most — that they got that interview with him because she was able to make him “promise”.

Consequently, God has just been backing her STEP UPS — that this is what she’s got on her first five days @ work: Image

So there!

All that a mother and a father could be so proud of is IF A CHILD LISTENS!

I couldn’t thank God enough that He provides us with the wisdom that would help us in giving our child the guidance that she needs. We argued, I thrived to convince, experienced tough times over chaos….but it has been worthy after all!

Above all, I thank God that He has given me this opportunity and I hope to still be there with our YG’s and RG’s FIRST FEW STEPS to success too 🙂

P.S. to YG & RG, I am praying you would allow Mom this same chance by being good girls in the weeks, moths and years to come.

“It’s all Up to Us! ”

No one is there beside you!

You are all alone!

It makes you sad – really sad!

You cried all by yourself and you’ve gone so tired!

It’s always same old story …

Over and over, you’d somehow find relief with “some relievers”

— ears who listened, hearts who felt!

Yet, it’s always same old story …

That sensation still lingers and the pain intensifies …

— because “relievers” do not promise to be there until you’re HEALED!

In today’s Gospel Luke 24:46-53, Jesus has to finally depart from His disciples. His 40 days of coaching them after His Resurrection has finally concluded; and this time, where He has MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, He is Ascending – He has to finally LEAVE!

If I were one of His disciples, I would naturally feel sad!

Just to imagine that I am given that great responsibility of mending everything without Him?

— times when things would surely become difficult and I would feel all alone because He left?

— times when I wouldn’t know where to find comfort because He’s no longer with me?

Oh, just the thought makes me sick! … and it sucks! – that fear aches! – makes me wanna give up!

But then NO! Here’s the RELIEF:

 49 And (behold) I am sending the promise of my Father upon you;

but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Where one’s absence is felt, it really pays to discover that you, yourself  should be the one to fill out that space! That “no choice” feeling where — when you don’t get what you expect, you should be the one to give!

Yes, it’s painful, it’s sad … and might make you feel so sick and tired!

Yet, same old story, it’s always YOUR CHOICE to HEAL your own pain

Just start mending those fearful thoughts,

give yourself that REST that you need and God will surely heal other parts that are painful! 🙂 sunset

“Shalom!”: the First Aid Choice”

If you say you love someone, as much as possible, you want to “Save the best for last”.  If  there is something to correct in the attitude and way of thinking of the person you love, you will try on many ways to bring out the best from that person.  Even if it would come to the point when you almost suffer every bit of pain because that person opted to just listen to what he thinks is true based on his opinion, yet,  you will still strive to save him/her from further hard luck as consequence of his/her stubborn actions and decisions.

In effect, you would even be so persecuted, much that it would lead to disagreements, conflicts, fighting and the worse, broken relationships: friendship, boy-girl steady, parent-child, husband-wife.  “more often than not”, you would struggle, yet be tempted to just give up your fight of winning their heart because you only get too pained while they would never want to realize & understand your intention of helping them to be healthier in mind.

But because you love that much, just as what  Jesus did in today’s gospel where He suffered much to death, yet on the 3rd day He rose again and did a “sign of peace” to all especially to those who betrayed and denied Him,   you also need to die to the pain brought by  misinterpretations and misunderstandings and extend your humble “Shalom” to the person/s who’ve hurt you so much instead of holding on to grudges.

“Shalom” is our first-aid to rescue and save our relationships before we could eventually open the minds of unwilling hearts. Wounds may be fresh and just as Jesus did in today’s Luke account where He showed his bruised hands and feet to show that He is real, we can also tell the person/s concerned how much they’ve hurt us so that they would realize how much forgiveness we have humbled down for them.

It’s never easy though swallowing your pride when you allow “peace” despite the fact that you were pained just because you want minds of people whom you care for, to be stretched in new directions. Just like what Jesus had to go through after His resurrection when some still did not believe, He had to extend “Shalom” as a sign of compromise until He was eventually able to open the minds of His disciples.

To charge this to our present time &  relationships specially within our families, parents should also strive to fulfil certain three-fold mission:

(1)     no matter how much kids would complain and unfavourably react against the worthy things which we want them to indulge in, we should always strive to find ways so that our children’s minds would eventually be opened to the reality that we are preparing them for the future which they would soon have to manage on their own;

(2)     we have to first learn before our kids can. We should strive to “walk our talk”: as in, if we tell them to be positive, we should also illustrate such positiveness in our words, actions and perceptions;

(3)     we, as parents should commit ourselves to be “at peace” with one another, treating each other as “partners” instead as each other’s competitor while doing things together to fulfil God’s will in our life time.

These missions are ideal – difficult to accomplish in reality because along the way, the opponent may use even your own family to challenge your faith – while they may cause you a lot of silent cries and may bring you to stressful situations which would later on break you down and eventually prompt you to give-in to your human frailties.

However, because you have committed yourself to spread the good news that we can enjoy repentance and forgiveness in every Shalom, your family would soon understand that the sacrifice which you are striving to endure today will be the royalty that they will benefit from specially by the time when we are already called to claim the glory of Eternal Easter which was already won for us by Christ in His Resurrection.

Let every “Shalom” aid us while we BOUNCE to rise up to our indifference in our family and even in any kind of relationship 🙂

“The true test of a man’s character is what he does
when no one is watching.” — John Wooden

Inspired by  a great coach and an amazing person of true character, this has always been my INTEGRITY REMINDER.

How much honesty do we have deep within ourselves that would make us proud to stand before anyone else, specially God?
